International Forum on Development Trend of New Materials (2014) Held in Xi’an
 

From Sept.19 to 22, International Forum on Development Trend of New Materials (2014), hosted by NPU, was held at the City Gate of Xi’an Hi-Tech Industrial Development Zone. Attendants to the forum including over 30 academicians, experts and scholars from 150 institutions home and abroad, government officials and enterprise representatives, gathered together to highlight the development strategy of new materials and engineering, discussing the industrial trend and technical direction of development of new materials.

Academician Wei Bingbo, the host of the forum, said at the opening ceremony that new materials, as the basis and guidance of modern hi-tech industries, have always been the focus all over the world, and the forum of 2014 plays a significant part in enhancing the development of the new material science and industries.

Zhuang Changxing, Vice Governor of Shaanxi Province, addressed that China had identified the industry of new materials as the key strategic emerging industry, and that Shaanxi taking the traditional advantages of research and development and industrialization of new materials, had developed into a new materials industry cluster district with Xi’an Hi-Tech Industrial Development Zone, Xi’an Economic and Technological Development Zone, Yan Liang Aviation Industrial Base at its core.

The forum invited well-known overseas and domestic scientists in material science to give a total of 56 lectures, with a wide range of topics including superconducting materials, 3D printing technology, photocatalysis technology, composite materials, materials genome and solidification technology, etc. In the corresponding period, other forums were also being held, such as “Frontier Forum of 3D Printing Material Technology”, “Frontier Forum of Composite Material Technology”, and “Forum of material Genome Project Research Progress”. Simultaneously, an exhibition was held with presence of over 20 research institutes and enterprises.
