报告内容简介：Crystallographic characteristics of phase transformations control the properties of materials, and this information is required in the rational design of new materials and thermo-mechanical processes for practical applications. This is particularly important because of the rapidly rising demand for high performance alloys in the automotive and aeronautical industries in order to increase fuel efficiency through weight reduction. This presentation introduces to fundamentals of crystallography of phase transformations in solids with focus on the edge-to-edge matching model, which was originally developed for understanding and predicting crystallographic features of diffusional controlled phase transformation. Applications of the edge-to-edge matching model to grain refinement of cast metals, new alloy development and to epitaxial growth are also discussed.
