Lecture I: Local nonequilibrium heat-mass transfer

Classical Irreversible Thermodynamics adequately describes heat-mass transfer only at local equilibrium condition, when the deviation from equilibrium is not significant. How to describe ultrafast heat-mass transfer processes, which occur far from local equilibrium? The appropriate models, which go beyond the local equilibrium assumption, have been discussed. Under far from equilibrium conditions the heat-mass transport has not only diffusive but also “wave” properties.

Lecture II: Applications of local non-equilibrium theories to rapid alloy solidification

The local-nonequilibrium approach has been used to analyze rapid phase transformations such as binary alloy solidification and colloidal solidification.
