“2020 NPU Online Summer International School” has been carried out from July 13th to August 28th in this special summerto improve the internationalization of both university and students. The online summer school transfers courses from classrooms to online platforms, providing more opportunities for students, and creating better possibilities for international cooperation. This summer, School of Materials Science and Engineering takes part in this online summer school actively.
Five professors in different research fields from five famous universities in France, Singapore, and Pakistan are invited this time, including Professor Benyebka Bou-said from Université de Lyon, Professor Ishaq Ahmad from National Physics Center of Pakistan, Professor Mohamed El Mansori from Arts et Métiers ParisTech, Professor Christian Coddet from Université de Technologie de Belfort-Montbéliard, Professor Yan Qingyu from Nanyang Technological University. They give students five high-quality courses: “Fundamentals of Tribology”, “Ion Beam Technoloy”, “Advanced Manufacturing Technology”, “Additive Manufacturing”, and “Nanomaterials: Fundamentals and Applications”.

Five professors from SME joined in the whole online teaching. On one hand, they help to keep the online disciplines; on the other hand, they assist to ensure the teaching qualities.
Although all onlone courses are taught by English, this new teaching form attracts even more students then before. Almost a hundred students from undergraduates to doctors, including foreign students select these courses, and give active feedbacks on professors and contents. Students perform better in asking questions, and more actively communicate with professors, creating a positive and international learning environment.
Online education is a challenge as well as a chance for all the teachers and students all over the world. It provides us not only a new form of international cooperation, but also promotes the abilities of researching communication for both our teachers and students.
