报告题目:Refractory High-Entropy Alloys: Efforts toward developing them as ultrahigh-temperature materials

High-entropy alloys (HEAs), or multi-principal-element alloys, are now at the research frontier of advanced metallic materials. They differ from previously known multi-element alloys in that there is not any principal or dominant alloying element in them, as in the case of steels where iron is the principal element. The alloying concept of high-entropy alloys brings in an unprecedented opportunity to explore the vast compositional space that was previously untouched. Refractory high-entropy alloys (RHEAs), an important category of HEAs which comprise mainly refractory (i.e., high melting points) elements, emerge as promising candidate materials for ultrahigh-temperature applications. One critical issue to solve for RHEAs is to achieve balanced oxidation resistance and mechanical properties, mainly room-temperature ductility for the latter. In this talk, I will present some of our recent efforts addressing to this challenge, and my personal vision of the future prospect regarding developing RHEAs as potential ultrahigh-temperature materials.

报告人简介:郭晟博士,瑞士查尔莫斯理工大学工业和材料科学系教授。分别于2002年和2005年获得中南大学学士和硕士学位,2009于牛津大学Richard Todd研究组获得博士学位。2009年-2013年分别在香港理工大学和香港城市大学开展合作研究。2013年加入瑞士查尔莫斯理工大学。郭晟教授主要研究领域是多主元合金,即高熵合金的合金设计及力学行为。高熵合金在高温、高硬度、高耐磨性和高耐腐蚀性的环境中有很大的应用潜力。郭教授的研究兴趣还包括其他先进的金属材料,如金属玻璃、非晶合金。在Advanced MaterialsActa Materialia等期刊发表论文100余篇。
